Introduction:

The adapter is a PCI-based serial expansion add-in card to provide a connectivity solution for today’s PC systems. It provides 8 ultra-high performance 16C950 UARTs. The 16C950 UART is the fasted available PCcompatible UART, offering data rate up to 15Mbps and 128-byte deep transmitter and receiver FIFOs. The deep FIFOs reduce CPU overhead and allow utilization of higher data rates. Each UART channel is software compatible with widely used industrystandard 16C550 devices and compatibles. In addition to increased performance and FIFO size, the UARTs also provide the full set of advanced features including automated in-band flow control, readable FIFO levels, etc.

With its complete hardware and strong OS support, the adapter is an ideal upgrade to support all UART-compatible devices for the rapidly changing desktop computer to preserve user’s investment in serial interface.
